Community Planning & Development Director - Maxine Calloway
Maxine Calloway has over fourteen years of extensive experience in land use, planning and zoning at the federal, regional, local and private sector levels. She is truly a unique asset to the City, that, on May 9, 2005, she was appointed Director of the Community Planning and Development Department by the City Manager Clarance Patterson.
By diligently working with the City Manager, Department Heads, Mayor and Council, community leaders, and staff, Mrs. Calloway leads the Department’s effort to manage issues affecting the City of North Miami’s neighborhoods including smart growth community and transportation planning, economic development, social services through community based organizations and implementation of affordable housing solutions.
Prior to her appointment as Director, Mrs. Calloway served as the City’s Assistant Community Planning and Development Director. She is an attorney who is a member in good standing of the Florida Bar. As Director, she implemented the City’s first Transportation Master Plan, Transit Oriented Development Study and is overseeing the development and adoption of the City’s Comprehensive Plan, Land Development Regulations and Development Impact Fees Ordinances. Her past employments range from managing the property management, site acquisition and zoning departments in the State of Florida for Crown Castle International and LCC, International, respectively, to holding planning positions for several jurisdictions including the City of Hollywood, Pompano Beach, Coral Springs, Palm Beach County, and other regional and federal agencies.
Mrs. Calloway obtained her bachelors degree from Bethune Cookman College, her master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Florida, school of architecture, her J.D. also from the University of Florida, College of Law. She is a member on the Board of Directors for the Broward Chapter of the American Planning Association.
Mrs. Calloway is the proud wife of Atty. Sidney Calloway and mother to her two young daughters Alexandria and Victoria Calloway.
