The Community Planning and Development Department is responsible for the direction and coordination of all growth, development and redevelopment related programs. The administration oversees the operations of the Department's four divisions: Economic Development, Housing, Planning and Transportation. The Director makes policy decisions for the Department, oversees the preparation of the City's Comprehensive Plan, as well as being responsible for coordinating and monitoring the budgets for all Divisions and programs within the Department.

Building and Zoning - Provides supervision of construction activities, acceptance of building permit and zoning applications, issuance of all building and trade permits, verification of compliance with the Florida Building Code and North Miami Zoning Code. Enhance the general quality of life through interpretation and enforcement of the Florida Building Code, as well as other applicable regulations governing construction and land use. |
Economic Development - Assists in the relocation and/or expansion of  businesses in North Miami by providing demographic and market data about the city, information on available space for lease, land for sale, as well as providing incentives to businesses through its Business Assistance Programs. |
Housing - Administers local programs geared toward low and moderate  income individuals and families, such as the minor home repair, first-time homebuyers, rental rehabilitation and others, funded through Federal, State and County grant sources. |
Planning - Is responsible for administering the City's short and long range  planning efforts including the implementation of land use development, processing rezoning and land use applications and the development of community neighborhood plans. |
Transportation - Implements transportation related policies in the Transportation  Master Plan and the Transportation Element of the Comprehensive Plan. Manages various projects funded by People’s Transportation Plan including traffic calming studies and implementation, bicycle network plans and construction, bus bench and shelter management, roadways and right of way maintenance, the employee transportation options program, and the NOMI Express, North Miami’s free bus service. |
